Transport Partnering Solutions
Transport is a key enabler of inclusive economic growth, and requires coordinated efforts across departments, spheres and agencies if integrated transport solutions are to be delivered, and the opportunities from maximising the economic and fiscal opportunities resultant from improved transport services are to be realised. The Land Transport Advisory Board (LTAB) has identified partnering on action/ implementation as a key constraint to progress in this area and has requested the EDP to investigate partnering solutions on key project areas.
A number of transport-related issues were included in the EDP’s work plan for the financial year 2016 – 2017. These included working with Transport Cape Town at the time on an overall partnering element for Cape Town’s Transport Strategy, and examining the possibilities in rail-side land use in Philippi. These programmes have now been rolled into larger programmes related to the Metro South-East area.
